Muscatine SCORE Chapter 662 is a nonprofit organization and resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) dedicated to providing confidential and free business counseling services to both for-profit and nonprofit small businesses, existing and proposed new startups, located in Muscatine and Lousia counties. Volunteer counselors are working/retired business owners, executives, and business leaders. Counseling hours are 1:30-3:30 p.m. every Thursday at the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce office at 319 East 2nd St., Suite 102. Call (563) 263-8895 to schedule a counseling appointment. Writers on the Avenue Poetry Contest

Writers on the Avenue is sponsoring a poetry contest to encourage area authors and poets in the art of writing, critiquing and sharing ideas. The contest is being held with support of the Community Foundation and the Muscatine County Arts Council. For more information Click Here

Judges for the contest have been announced for the following age groups:

Under 12 - Ryan Collins, activities director at Quad Cities Arts

Middle school to age 18 - Rod Reeves, a writer from Burlington

19 and Older - John Turner, Scott Community College instructor

Prizes includes pizzas, ice cream, book certificates, cash, t-shirts, and applause. Entry forms are available at area schools, Musser Public Library and Muscatine Books & More.

West Liberty Area Arts Council Opens a Charitable Fund

West Liberty Area Arts Council established a charitable fund in early March. The mission of their organization is to develop, enhance, and promote an art appreciation, awareness and action for the benefit of West Liberty and the surrounding area.
